The government is working to cancel the bail of Benazir in Dubai, a law firm has been appointed

Former Inspector General of Bangladesh Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed was released on bail from Dubai court, but the Bangladesh government has started legal activities to cancel his bail and bring him back to the country. For this purpose, a law firm has been appointed in the United Arab Emirates, said Interior Minister Salahuddin Ahmed.

The Home Minister gave this information in response to journalists' questions after an exchange meeting with officers and members of various police units in Rajshahi on Sunday (August 2).

"We have learned that Benazir Ahmed has been granted bail with strict conditions. A law firm has been appointed in Dubai to cancel his bail order," he said.

The Home Minister also said that efforts are underway to collect the certified copy of the case. Application for cancellation of bail will be made as soon as necessary documents are received. "We will soon cancel the bail and be able to bring him back to the country," he hoped.

Earlier on the same day at noon, when asked about Benazir Ahmed's release on bail, the police headquarters said that they do not have any official information in this regard. Police Headquarters Assistant Inspector General (Media) AHM Shahadat Hossain said, "We don't have any information on this matter. The ministry and related departments can tell."

According to information published in various media, a court in Dubai granted Benazir Ahmed's bail application on July 27. He was later released from jail on July 30 after completing the necessary legal formalities.

However, despite getting bail, the Dubai court has imposed several strict conditions on him. As per the bail conditions, Benazir Ahmed's passport has been kept in the custody of the court and she cannot leave the UAE without the court's permission, sources said. As a result, even if he is released on bail, he has no chance to leave the country for now.

It is to be noted that the investigation is going on against Benazir Ahmed on charges of illegal wealth acquisition and money laundering in several cases filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). He was detained in Dubai as part of international legal proceedings based on these allegations. The judicial process of the allegations is still ongoing and they are not legally proven before the final judgment of the court.
