The new pricing structure brings good news for internet users across the country. The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has approved new tariffs to make broadband services more accessible and affordable, thereby increasing access to high-speed internet at low cost.
The new tariff plan was finalized in a notification published by the Systems and Services Department of BTRC on Monday (April 27). The main objective of this decision is to deliver quality internet services at fixed and affordable prices to the customers of all levels of the country.
Under the new structure, internet service providers will be able to offer different speed packages within fixed prices. In particular, Sam Online can provide high-speed broadband services starting from 30 Mbps at 500 taka to 250 Mbps at 3000 taka. By doing this, users will get the opportunity to use the internet at a much lower cost than before.
BTRC said this price has been fixed in line with the government's 'one country, one rate' policy. The entire structure is arranged on the basis of proportional adjustment of bandwidth from 5 Mbps to 40 Mbps, so as to ensure the same quality of service in any part of the country.
As per the new list, the maximum price for 30 Mbps internet has been fixed at Rs 500, Rs 1000 for 100 Mbps and Rs 3000 for 250 Mbps. The service providers have to manage the package within this prescribed limit.
In addition, a maximum shared contention ratio of 1:8 has been set for all connections as an important aspect to maintain quality of service. As a result, users can expect relatively stable and uninterrupted internet service.
BTRC feels that the implementation of this new pricing structure will further accelerate the expansion of digital services in the country. It will have a positive impact in various sectors including online education, freelancing, business and commerce. It will also play an important role in reducing the disparity in internet usage between urban and rural areas.
