Two popular Bollywood stars Salman Khan and Alia Bhatt have stood by the millions of people affected by the terrible floods in Assam, India. From creating awareness and calling for help on social media to providing relief assistance on the ground, both the stars have stood by the people of Banvasi in their own way.
Recently, due to heavy rains and mountain landslides, the water level of various rivers including Brahmaputra in Assam has increased, creating a terrible flood situation. Lakhs of people in various districts including Sibsagar, Charaideo, Jorhat have become waterlogged. Houses, agricultural land and livestock have been lost many times. These two Bollywood stars have come forward to help the distressed people in such a critical situation.
Alia Bhatt in an emotional post on social media Instagram has depicted the horrors of floods in Assam. He said that many people lost their lives in the floods and lakhs of people lost their homes and were forced to go to shelters. Many families have lost their homes, farmland and livestock.
Alia said, every year such calamities return to Assam. But still not everyone can be fully prepared for such a situation. He urged the countrymen to come forward for immediate relief and long-term rehabilitation to stand by the people of Assam at this critical time.
Apart from this, Alia said that the information and communication means of various reliable organizations working at the field level to help the flood victims will also be conveyed to the people.
On the other hand, Salman Khan started a relief program for the flood victims of Assam through his charity organization 'Bing Human' behind the campaign. This program, conducted in collaboration with a local fan club, is already delivering emergency aid to the affected areas.
In the first phase of relief operations, dry food and essential items are being distributed to Sibsagar and surrounding areas, one of the most affected areas.
In the next phase, there are plans to conduct relief operations on a larger scale. These include provision of ration kits to affected families, distribution of clean drinking water and water purification tablets, delivery of essential medicines and medical supplies and distribution of sanitary pads and mosquito coils for health protection.
In the long term, there are also plans to help rebuild flood-damaged houses, schools and hospitals.
When millions of people have lost their homes and are living a miserable life due to the terrible floods in Assam, this humanitarian initiative of Salman Khan and Alia Bhatt has come into discussion anew. Their support is helping to deal with the immediate crisis of the affected people as well as creating public awareness about the flood situation.
