Mosque is a sacred place for every Muslim. The call to prayer is given five times a day from the microphone of the mosque. Therefore, Muslims have immense trust and faith in the announcement of the mosque's microphone. But some nefarious circles use the microphone of the holy mosque for unholy activities. Caused terrible incidents like murder, homestead looting and arson.
On the day of Eid-ul-Fitr, two brothers were killed in a mob thrashing on the suspicion of thieves in Palash of Narsingdi. At that time, the miscreants seriously injured the mother and father while trying to save them. However, the victim's aunt Hajera Begum alleged that the miscreants hacked and beat the two brothers to death for not paying the contribution.
Meanwhile, it is revealed in the news that this incident started with stopping the autorickshaw battery thief from gang beating. Later in the night Rakib, the brother of the deceased Shakib, went to the Kartaoil area with his people and announced that the mosque had been robbed. Later, both of their brothers died when the villagers gave them a thrashing.
The incident happened on Monday (March 31) night in Kartaoil area of Palash upazila. Police have arrested three people named Habib, Osman and Ranju in this incident.
Relatives of the deceased said that the deceased Rakib and his father Ashraf Uddin used to send people abroad. They had a conflict with some people in the area over sending people abroad. On Monday, Shakib and his friends went out on the occasion of Eid. When they were visiting Kartatail area, miscreants ambushed them. At that time, the miscreants attacked Shakib with sharp weapons. On hearing this news, his brother Rakib and relatives including his parents rushed to the spot. At one stage of the argument, when a robbery was announced from the microphone of the mosque, the locals united with the miscreants and carried out the murder. The parents of the deceased have been admitted to Dhaka Medical Hospital.
Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police Md. Abdul Hannan said that a person named Himel was beaten up for stealing the autorickshaw battery of a person named Sajal in Kartaoil area of Palash. At that time the deceased Rakib heard that his uncle was beaten. On hearing this, Rakib goes there and raises an uproar, arresting him there and beating him up. Rakib's brother Shakib went to Kartaoil area with people after receiving the news. At that time, the mosque was miked because there were robbers in the area. Later the villagers beat them up. After that, the police rescued them and took them to the Sadar Hospital, Shakib died and the others were sent to Dhaka. Rakib also died on the way to Dhaka.
On February 24, in Chidamhat village of Pirgacha upazila of Rangpur district, a call was made from the microphone of the mosque to attack the houses of Hezbut Tawheed members calling them 'Hindu'. People came from far away and attacked the members of the organization, ransacked their houses and finally six houses were burnt down.
Incidents of damaging lives and property by preaching lies through the microphone of the mosque have been seen to happen many times in different parts of the country. In all cases, cases of murder or robbery have been registered. In no event was a case filed against any of the mosque's muezzins or mosque committee. Neither the police nor the state can escape responsibility even if the victims do not file a case against the muezzin or any of the mosque committee due to religious values. We see those whose announcements lead to horrific attacks, murders, and arson are repeatedly left outside the law. As a result, the misuse of the mosque's microphone has not stopped till today. Muazzins and mosque committee officials should also be brought under the law to stop misuse of mosque microphones.
