Popular small screen actor Jaher Alvi aka Md. Niamat Ullah Bhuiyan has been ordered to be sent to jail. After hearing the charges brought against him in the case of abetment of his wife Afra Evnat Ikra's murder, the court rejected his bail plea. In this incident, a wide discussion has started in the showbiz arena across the country.
He surrendered in Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Kamal Uddin's court on Thursday (June 18) afternoon. After the bail application was made through the lawyers, the court ordered to send him to jail after the hearing.
According to court sources, Jaher Alvi appeared in the court around 1:30 p.m. He stood in the dock when the hearing began. Several lawyers including Dhaka Bar President Advocate Anwar Zahid Bhuiyan participated in the hearing. On the other hand, the lawyers of the plaintiff opposed the bail and requested to send him to jail.
It is said in the bail application that Jaher Alvi has no involvement in this incident. It is also claimed that the plaintiff has filed the suit out of personal grudge because of love marriage. Besides, it is mentioned that there is no specific allegation against him in the statement of the case. It was also stated in the bail application that at the time of the incident, he was staying in Nepal for drama production.
According to the case documents, a woman named Afra Evnat Ikra was rescued from her house in Mirpur DOHS area of Dhaka on February 28 while hanging from the ceiling fan. He was later taken to Kurmitola Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
Later that night Iqra's father Kabir Hayat Khan filed a case as plaintiff. In the case, it is alleged that she was induced to commit suicide due to long family quarrels and torture.
Notably, Jaher Alvi and Iqra got married in 2010 and have a child. Earlier, the actor's mother Nasreen Sultana Shiuli surrendered to the court and got bail in the same case on June 4.
