Minister of State for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaz emphasized on ensuring the basic education of every child at the level of primary education. He said that everyone including the teachers should play a responsible role to ensure that no child lags behind in Bengali, English and Mathematics. Besides, he called upon students to be educated as good citizens by imparting education based on religious, family and civic values.
The State Minister said these things in the chief guest's speech at Sunamganj Primary Teachers Training Institute (PTI) on Monday (July 27) at the orientation of government primary school feeding program activities and exchange of views on improvement of quality of primary education.
Bobby Hajjaz said that the main goal of primary education is to ensure the right to education of every child in the country. Everyone concerned including teachers should pay special attention to ensure that no student lags behind in Bengali, English and Mathematics.
He said that the shortage of teachers is relatively high in Sylhet division. In order to eliminate this crisis, along with quick recruitment of teachers, initiatives have been taken to convert primary teachers training institutes into modern and effective training centers. Training programs will be strengthened so that no teacher teaches in the classroom without the necessary training.
The state minister said that the government is also working on the salary, rank and professional development of teachers. He said that the new teacher policy and head teacher policy will be formulated very soon. Apart from ensuring proper status of teachers, their responsibility and accountability will also be enhanced.
Bobby Hajjaz emphasized on improving the image of government primary schools and said that parents should gain confidence by ensuring regular teaching, discipline and quality of education in schools. At the same time, importance will be given to the field level opinion for infrastructure development, construction of sports fields and educational infrastructure suitable for special geographical areas like Hawar.
Referring to the government primary school feeding programme, he said that the government is following a zero tolerance policy to ensure safe and quality food for students. Inspection of food quality, random factory inspection, intake of food through Mothers Committee and laboratory sample testing if necessary have been made mandatory. Strict action will be taken against those concerned if any irregularity in food supply is proved.
The state minister also said that the involvement of local people is very important in the development of government primary schools. For this purpose, initiatives will be taken to form 'Parent Circle' with parents in every class and 'School Friend Register' in every school. Through this, participation of local people in school management will increase and transparency, accountability and quality in education programs will be strengthened.
