Thalapathy Vijay's last movie 'John Nayagan' has been doing well over the weekend even though it didn't get the response as expected on the first day of its release. In just four days of its release, the film earned Rs 217 crore worldwide and entered the Rs 200 crore club.
According to Hindustan Times report, most of the shows of the movie in Tamil Nadu on the day of its release on July 23 were houseul. But business outside the state was relatively slow. All in all, the film grossed Rs 78 crore worldwide on its opening day, which failed to touch the expected Rs 100 crore target before release.
After the first day, the film's income decreased slightly on Friday, but the film regained its momentum on Saturday and Sunday. The movie earned Rs 28.90 crore nett in India on Saturday and Rs 32 crore nett on Sunday.
After the four-day extended opening weekend, 'John Naygon' collected Rs 124 crore nett and Rs 146 crore gross in India.
The film has also done good business in foreign markets. Especially in the United States, it earned more than 20 million US dollars on the first day from the premiere show. The total income of the film in the international market till Sunday is more than 75 million US dollars after adding the income of other countries.
All in all, the total income of 'John Naygon' worldwide stands at Rs. 217 crores. This is the second Tamil movie to enter the 200 crore club this year after Suriya's Karuppu.
Director H. Produced by Vinoth, 'John Naigan' is Thalapathy Vijay's last film as an actor before joining politics full-time. The film was initially planned to release in January, but the release was delayed due to complications with the CBFC clearance.
The movie also stars Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj and Narain alongside Thalapathy Vijay.
