There is no obstacle in the BCB elections, the writ was dismissed by the High Court

The High Court has dismissed the writ petition filed by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) regarding the upcoming elections. As a result, there is no legal obstacle to carry out the BCB Board of Directors election to be held on June 7. This decision of the court has opened the way for the election process to proceed normally.

On Wednesday (June 3), High Court Justice Bhishmadev Chakraborty and Justice Md. A bench consisting of Asif Hasan passed the order. After the preliminary hearing of the writ, the court dismissed the petition, the lawyers confirmed.

The writ was filed challenging the BCB's declaration of election schedule and validity of voter list. In the hearing, senior lawyer Mohammad Hossain Lipu, lawyer Azim Uddin Patwari and Md. Shafiqul Islam participated. On the other hand, Attorney General Barrister Md. on behalf of the state and National Sports Council and BCB. Ruhul Quddus, Additional Attorney General Barrister Anik R Haque and Advocate Mahin M Rahman conducted the hearing.

Earlier, the hearing started on Tuesday (June 2) and Wednesday was fixed for the next hearing. After two days of hearing, the High Court gave the final order.

It is to be noted that on May 18, six councilors filed a writ demanding the withdrawal of the notice regarding the nomination of councilors for the BCB election. They complained that there are some irregularities in the election process. Later, a supplementary application was also attached to this writ, wherein various directions were sought, including the preparation of a new voter list.

The Election Commission on May 16 officially announced the schedule of BCB Board of Directors Election-2026. Accordingly, the election is scheduled to be held on June 7. The draft voter list was also published on May 17.

As per the election structure, 23 directors will be elected through direct voting. Besides, 2 more directors will be added to the nomination of National Sports Council. A president will be elected by the votes of these 25 directors.

As a result of the judgment of the High Court, the way to conduct the BCB elections as per the scheduled schedule is completely open.
