Today is International Women's Day, women should come forward to build the country and society
Today is International Women's Day. In 1974, the United Nations declared March 8 as International Women's Day. But the story of the struggle behind it goes back a long time. First of all, on this day in 1857, when the women workers of a sewing factory in the United States protested about several issues related to their status, including voting rights, the police resisted them. Later, in 1910, German women's leader Clara Zetkin proposed to celebrate this day as Women's Day. Since 1911, this day has been celebrated privately as Women's Day in different countries, but after the declaration of the United Nations, the day is considered truly important and every year the countries included in the United Nations have been celebrating this day officially. In Bangladesh, this day is celebrated with due dignity both publicly and privately. Basically, the day is observed with the aim of establishing equal rights in socio-economic-political development of women. The theme of this year's Women's Day is "Technology and Inauguration, Towards Gender Equality."
But keeping the theme in front, it has to be said that women have not been able to achieve their real rights even today. Women today have lost their individuality in the 'day-centered' trap of materialistic civilization. The role that women needed to play in the formation of a society is not seen at all in our society today. Women are still being oppressed in the name of 'equality', women are still being deprived of their real rights, physical and mental torture is still going on in different parts of our country. Social and religious prejudices and blindness are the main culprits behind this.
Those who do not allow women to play an important role in the formation of society basically keep women behind the scenes and still treat them as commodities. This class is busy diverting the faith of religious people to the wrong sector and packing women. They do not want to allow women to participate decently in every function of the society. How is it possible to improve the society and the country by leaving women behind in a society where half of the population is women?
Again, those who are standing for 'gender equality' as equal men and women should also keep several things in mind. Physical, mental and spiritual differences exist between men and women. In the name of equality, if women are made to do manual labor like men from morning to night, then even in that case, the right status of women is not achieved. Rather, equality should be considered established only if women have the opportunity to prove themselves in every place according to their merits. And in the current era of information and technology, women must be engaged in the welfare of the country and nation alongside men. Because at the speed at which the world and civilization are advancing, the backwardness of women means the backwardness of the country and the nation.
Therefore, on Women's Day, we all have to make arrangements to bring women forward in building the country and nation. The government has already signed various agreements and taken up various schemes which will help women to qualify. Also, social organizations working with women should be given opportunities so that they can build a beautiful and ideal society with the mutual cooperation of both men and women. This is what we all want on Women's Day, that both men and women should be treated according to their merits.
