Copy of Sheikh Hasina blocking the road with sand truck - Nahid Islam

Jatiya Nagrik Party (NCP) convener and Member of Parliament Nahid Islam criticized the government in the context of allegations of obstruction and attack on the party's program in Habiganj. He complained that there is an attempt to establish a culture of fear in the country. Besides, he compared the incident of blocking the road with a truck full of children with former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's strategy and said, 'This is Sheikh Hasina's copy.'

Nahid Islam said these things in the speech of the chief guest at the discussion meeting titled 'Fiery July: Blood Debt and Future Bangladesh' organized by the university branch of National Student Power at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Shabiprobi) on Thursday afternoon.

In his speech, he complained that a new atmosphere of fear and repression is being created in the country. He said, instead of following the old tactics of suppressing the movement, he urged the government to deal with the political situation in a new way.

Alleging the attack on NCP's 'July Padayatra' program in Habiganj, Nahid Islam said that the right of expression of people was limited by using the Digital Security Act (DSA) in the last 16 years. He alleged that the current government is also walking on the same path.

He said, in a democratic state there can be differences or disagreements. However, the use of force to deal with political differences is not acceptable in any way.

The convener of NCP also said that their movement will continue to demand the trial of fascism and reform of the state. According to him, if the justice of the past events is ensured, no 'new fascism' can rise in the future.

At one stage of the speech, he said, what will happen if Sheikh Hasina steps on the ground of Dhaka in December, he also commented.

Earlier, after the attack on NCP's 'July Padayatra' program in Habiganj and police obstruction in Moulvibazar, the central leaders of the party reached Sylhet on Thursday afternoon. Leaders and activists welcomed them with flowers at the Paraichak Bypass area of South Surma. Later from there they participated in the discussion meeting held at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology.

However, no statement from the government or related authorities was immediately available regarding these allegations of Nahid Islam.
