Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan has commented that there is no opportunity to blindly follow individuals or groups in politics. he said, No brand of politics is deified, political leaders are not gods or goddesses either. He also commented that the welfare of the people should be the main objective of politics.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan said these things in the speech of the chief guest at the biennial conference of Bangladesh Puja Udjaj Parishad, Barisal at noon on Friday (July 31) at Barisal District Shilpakala Academy Auditorium.
The minister said that instead of blindly following political parties or leaders, people's interest and welfare should be prioritized. According to him, no political symbol is deified and no political leader is deified. Every speech and action of politics should be for the welfare of people.
He emphasized on religious harmony and said that everyone should practice their own religion with devotion and at the same time have equal respect for all other religions. If any individual or group tries to use religion to create communal divisions or achieve political gains, they must be identified and resisted.
Zahir Uddin Swapan also said that the conspiracy to create division in Bangladesh will not be allowed to succeed on the basis of any identity of hill and plain people, language, caste, gender or religion. He also commented that those who want to use religion to divide the state or society, oppose humanity and the true teachings of religion.
He said, the philosophy and ideals of politics are not like religious philosophy. While religion revolves around an almighty creator, politics should aim to ensure the interests, rights and welfare of the people.
At this time, he said, Prime Minister Tariq Rahman is the strongest representative in the question of establishing equal rights for the people of Bangladesh.
Barisal City Corporation Administrator Bilkis Akhter Jahan Shirin and Zilla Parishad Administrator Akon Quddusur Rahman were present as special guests in the event. Central General Secretary and Journalist Santosh Sharma of Bangladesh Puja Udjaj Parishad spoke as the main speaker.
At the beginning of the ceremony, the national flag was hoisted along with the national anthem. Later, the Information and Broadcasting Minister inaugurated the bi-annual conference by flying balloons and doves as symbols of peace. Five brave freedom fighters were felicitated on the same occasion.
