The situation became heated due to the clashes between the locals and the cleaners in Uttarkhan of the capital. The administrator of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) went to the spot to control the situation. Shafiqul Islam Khan and local Member of Parliament (MP) Jahangir Hossain were attacked. In this incident, some cleaners were injured and some were arrested by the police.
The incident took place in Uttarkhan Rajabari Secondary Transfer Station (STS) area of Ward No. 46 under DNCC Region-8 on Sunday (August 2) afternoon. DNCC public relations officer confirmed the matter. Zakir Hossain.
According to him, some locals ambushed DNCC cleaners on duty in Uttarkhan Rajabari STS area. Upon receiving the news, the DNCC administrator went to the spot to control the situation. Shafiqul Islam Khan, local MP Jahangir Hossain and senior police officers. However, while trying to calm the situation, the attackers also attacked the administrator and the MP.
Regarding the incident, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Uttara Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Mirza Tarek Ahmed Beg, said that during the clash, bricks and stones were thrown. Some cleaners were injured. The injured were rescued and sent to the hospital. A few people have been arrested from the spot and the city corporation is preparing to file a case. He also said that the arrest of the arrested persons will be shown after the case.
Additional police have been deployed in the area after the incident. At present, the situation is under control, but the whole area is in chaos.
Meanwhile, a section of the locals claimed that there had been some disputes and dissatisfaction for a long time regarding the conduct of cleaning activities. Due to that dispute, the conflict started. However, the law and order forces are investigating the real cause of this incident.
Note that the reason behind the attack and the role of those involved are under investigation. The concerned authorities said that the detailed information will be given after the investigation.
