In Boalkhali Upazila of Chittagong, an allegation has been made against the mother of a one-month-old baby girl who was secretly sold with the news of her death. Based on the complaint of the grandmother, the police rescued the child and returned it to the family.
According to the police, the child was rescued from the Bara Dighi area of Hathazari upazila on Saturday (August 1) night. Later on Sunday (August 2) morning, he was handed over to his family after the necessary legal process.
The child's grandmother Feroza Begum said that after going for a visit on July 27, the family informed her that her granddaughter had died and the burial was completed. However, the next day when he went to the child's house to find out about the matter, the family members became suspicious of the conversation. They asked to show the grave but they could not show any grave. Then he filed a written complaint at Boalkhali police station.
Boalkhali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mozaffar Hossain said that investigation of the complaint revealed that the child's mother, Roksana Begum, sold her one-month-old baby girl for Tk 20,000.
After receiving the grandmother's complaint, the police conducted an operation and rescued the child from Bara Dighi Par area of Hathazari Upazila.
The OC also said that the rescued child was handed over to the family after completing the necessary legal procedures on Sunday morning. Further action is being taken against those involved in the incident as per law.
